MAGISTRATES' COURT OF VICTORIA

Ringwood Magistrates' Court

Sitting in the heart of Melbourne's east, Ringwood Magistrates' Court is one of the venues that make up the Magistrates' Court of Victoria. It runs as a full-time registry, with the court open on weekdays.

Day to day, the court works through criminal charges, driving matters, intervention order applications, and smaller civil claims brought by people living across the eastern suburbs, taking in Maroondah and the Yarra Ranges.

What matters are heard here

The bulk of what comes before a magistrate at Ringwood sits at the lower end of the scale, or marks the first step in a more serious prosecution. Typical examples include:

  • Driving and drink driving charges
  • Summary (less serious) criminal offences
  • Family violence and personal safety intervention order applications
  • Applications for bail, and applications to vary existing bail
  • The committal stage of indictable charges
  • Smaller civil claims that fall within the court's monetary limit

Charges too serious for a magistrate to finalise are sent up to the County Court or the Supreme Court of Victoria.
